Columnea ovata). A slender stemmed root climber, in the wild often exceeding 5m in height. Leaves in pairs, ovate, toothed, leathery, rich green in shade, 6-20mm in length. Flowers 4-4.5cm long, with a tubular base and four spreading petal lobes, glowing red, summer. Southern Chile and Argentina, in temperate rain forest. Not fully hardy and in cold areas needs greenhouse protection.
