forming extensive colonies to 30cm or more across. Rhizomes very slender, below ground. Leaves triangular, ovate to about 10cm tall, tripinnate, deep bright glossy green. Southern South America, in forest, moist scrub, stream banks, fallen mossy logs and rock crevices. Surprisingly hardy, but can be severely browned in frosty windy winters. Can be invasive in a peat bed. Makes a very decorative alpine house specimen.
