(syn. A pirinica and A. athoa of gardens). Densely tufted, mature specimens forming deep mats or loosish cushions 15-30cm across. Leaves glaucous and densely white-hairy, 4-10mm long, narrowly oblanceolate to linear. Flowers to 8mm long, clear pink, in small but profuse clusters. Northern Greece and southwestern Bulgaria, in the alpine zone. One of the loveliest species, similar to A. arcadiensis, but easier to grow outside with protection from winter wet, though best in the alpine house. [Pl.50]
