Leaf stalks 20-30cm or more in length. Leaf blades 15-30cm long, cordate-sagittate, finely white veined, lustrous and heavily textured. Spathe 15-25cm long, dark reddish-purple, in autumn with young leaves. Islands of the western Mediterranean in stony places amongst scrub. Sometimes confused (in name only) with A, italicum subsp. italicum (best known as A.i, 'Pictum' in gardens), but easily identified by its autumnal purple spathes. Alpine House.
