ex Loisel (syn. A. assoana, A. caucasica, A. lanata). Tufted and white woolly perennial with stems 20-30cm in height. Leaves biternate to pinnatifid, divided into linear, pointed lobes. Flowerheads 4-6mm across, yellowish, in racemes or narrow panicles. Southern Europe from central Spain to the Ukraine, very local on calcareous rocks up to 1500m. Plants formerly listed as A. alpina are now considered to be conspecific.
