Botanical Description

up to 30cm or more across, with slender decumbent stems. Leaves oblong to narrowly lanceolate, l-2cm long sometimes more, greyish-green with a short curled pubescence. Flowers 1.5-2cm across, pure white, the sepals having membranous margins, solitary or in small cymes on stems 10cm or more high, spring. South-western Europe on heaths and in open woods. A.m. subsp. intricata has generally longer, interlacing stems, creating an untidy habit, and the sepals lack the membranous margins. Southern Spain only. [Pl.37]
