Height 10-30cm Basal leaves biternate, leaflets 1-2.5cm long. Flowers nodding, one to four to a stem, 1.2-2cm wide, 2-3cm long, spur 1.5-2.5cm straight. This species is close to A. canadensis but is generally smaller and the sepals are shorter than the petals; in some forms the flowers are scarlet throughout. Southern Rocky Mountains, Utah and Colorado.
