A rather stout plant to 60cm tall, though often less. Basal leaves long-stalked, broader than long, three to five lobed main segments further lobed and toothed, hairy beneath; stem leaves similar but unstalked. Flowers several borne on a branched scape, 2.5-3.5cm, white, starry, with five oblong petals. Grassy and wooded habitats in North America from Labrador to Colorado. Rather coarse and too vigorous for the rock garden but pleasant enough in a woodland border.
