Botanical Description

When young this is a tightly cushion-forming species but with age, in the wild at least, it becomes a mat 15cm or more wide. Rosettes globular, to 5mm across on wild plants, but wider and looser in cultivation. Leaves elliptic, silky hairy at the tips. Flowers 4mm wide, white sometimes pink with a greenish or yellow eye, virtually stemless, one per rosette. Northern Himalaya to Tibet and China, above 3000m on dry earthy or shaly banks and among rocks and scrub.
