Botanical Description

which may be shrivelled at flowering, elliptic, glaucous with a pronounced opaque margin and notably succulent, greatly reduced on the flowering stems. Flowers in open umbels of three to fifteen, flared, funnel-shaped, but with all 3-3.5cm long tepals narrowly oblanceolate and pointed, pale silvery wine-pink with a pattern of short dashes of dark purplish wine over a suffusion of palest yellow on the basal half of the two inner-uppers. This same deep colour culminates at the tips in a solid chevron as well as covering the entire lowermost tepal. Chile, on coastal dunes around one Atacama oasis.
