Bulbs narrowly ovoid, forming clumps. Stems usually 10-15cm tall but sometimes to twice this. Leaves filiform, about 1mm thick by 15cm or more long. Flowers cup-shaped, about 5mm long, the tepals white, often aging pinkish with a brown to reddish midrib (in subsp. haemostictum, also dark red-spotted within), in umbels of up to twenty-five, autumn, after leaves have withered. Western Turkey, Crete and Greece, on rocky slopes up to 550m. Not reliably hardy in severe winters.
