Botanical Description

elongating considerably in seed. Leaves more or less triangular in outline, 8-16cm long, like those of A. amurensis but a brighter green. Flowers up to 5cm in diameter, bowl-shaped, composed of fifteen to twenty-five glossy, rich yellow petals, mid to late summer sometimes earlier. Pakistan to western Tien Shan, western Nepal and Tibet, on damp slopes at 3300-4300m where snow lies all winter. [Pl.3]
