Botanical Description

The tough resilient branches have a scaly covering of dead and persistent overlapping broad stipules with fringed margins. Leaves of three to four tiny, lanceolate to obovate leaflets. Flowers solitary, 1-1.5cm long, on brief stalks from leaf axils at the branch tips, yellow with brownish-purple pencilling. Lomenta usually with two segments. Argentina, in southern Patagonian steppe, on dry hillsides and grassy borders of grazed marshland at 50-500m.
