Stems erect, to 45cm in height. Radical leaves ovate, long-stalked. Stem leaves in whorls, ovate-oblong, 3-8cm long, pointed and coarsely toothed. Flowers bell-shaped, blue, about 2cm long, in racemes, sometimes with short side branches. North eastern Mongolia and south eastern Siberia. A.p. var. heterotricha has lanceolate to narrowly ovate leaves on stems up to 60cm tall and flowers in dense racemes. Japan. For A.p. var. japonica see A. triphylla var. japonica.
