A neat mat-forming species with stems 15-50cm long and basal tufts of silky hairy foliage. Leaves hairy, 2-6.5cm long, composed of nine to twenty-one close-set leaflets which are pinnatisect, each cut into four to fifteen segments. A loose ball of a few spiny ellipsoidal fruitlets approximately 1cm in diameter is frequently supplemented by a few additional ones in the axils of tiny stem leaves. The spines are somewhat curved and armed with glochids. Chile and Argentina, the central cordilleras to central Patagonia, 900-2500m.
